As the Fiesta Bowl's chief executive, John Junker rubbed shoulders with the elite and most powerful figures in college football.

In June, he will become an inmate in a federal prison.

U.S.

District Judge David Campbell on Thursday sentenced Junker to eight months in prison for leading a campaign-finance scandal that ensnared the college-football organization he transformed from a low-key, postseason bowl game into one of the country's biggest sporting events.

Campbell gave Junker, 58, until June 15 to surrender so he can attend the high-school and college graduations of his two children.

The judge also placed Junker under supervised release for one year after he leaves prison.
